SA Apparel market growth – July 2025

The Retailer Liaison Committee (RLC) released its Market Sales Report for July 2025. Its members’ sales accounted for 59.2% of total SA clothing sales.

Apparel, Homeware and Beauty sales rebounded 6.4% y-y in July (June: -5.1% y-y), with a 6-month rolling growth of 5.8% y-y and a 12-month rolling growth of 6.3% y-y.

Apparel and Beauty category sales recovered by 5.5% y-y in July, with Womenswear sales increasing 4.9% y-y, Menswear sales growth of 4.8% y-y, and Kids & Baby sales up 6.3% y-y. Beauty sales maintained its good performance, growing 8.6% y-y, while Homeware sales growth was strong, up 11.6% y-y in July.

Total volumes recovered 2.8% y-y in July (June: -9.4% y-y).

Total product inflation moderated to 3.6% in July (June: 4.7%).

The average unit price for the RLC was 04 in July (compared to R122.68 in July 2024).
