The Retailer Liaison Committee (RLC) released its Market Sales Report for June 2025. Its members’ sales accounted for 59.0% of total SA clothing sales.
Apparel, Homeware and Beauty sales contracted 5.2% y-y in June (May: +18.0% y-y), with a 6-month rolling growth of 5.8% y-y and a 12-month rolling growth of 5.9% y-y.
Taking into account the early onset of winter in 2025, the combined May and June sales increased 5.8% y-y.
Apparel and Beauty category sales fell -6.3% y-y in June, with Womenswear sales contracting -4.5% y-y, Menswear sales down -3.2% y-y, and Kids & Baby sales weakening to -13.4% y-y. Beauty sales growth remained positive, moderating to 5.6% y-y.
Homeware sales growth slowed to 1.9% y-y in June, with volumes contracting 2.2% y-y.
Total volumes contracted to -9.5% y-y in June (May: 12.2% y-y).
Total product inflation moderated slightly to 4.8% in June (May: 5.1%).
The average unit price for the RLC was 29 in June (compared to R128.10 in June 2024).
