The Retailer Liaison Committee (RLC) released its Market Sales Report for October 2025. Its members’ sales accounted for 57.6% of total SA clothing sales.
Total Apparel, Homeware and Beauty recorded marginal sales growth of 3.4% y-y in October (September: 0.6% y-y), with a 6-month rolling growth of 4.6% y-y and a 12-month rolling growth of 5.5% y-y.
Total SA sales rebounded 3.6% y-y for October, following a contraction in sales of 0.1% y-y recorded in September.
Apparel and Beauty category sales grew 2.6% y-y in October. Womenswear sales grew by 4.5% y-y, while Menswear sales recovered to 2.6% y-y. Kids & Baby sales contracted 0.9% y-y. Beauty sales grew by a strong 9.2% y-y.
Homeware sales grew 7.4% y-y for October (September: 5.5% y-y).
Total volumes declined 1.5% y-y in October (September: -2.0% y-y).
Total product inflation jumped to 5.0% in October (September: 2.7%).
The average unit price for the RLC was 01 in October (compared to R117.15 in October 2024).
