SA Consumer Watch – April

Continuing 2017’s positive trend, consumer and producer price inflation eased in March. Business confidence took a further knock, in effect reversing January’s positive gains. Motorists can expect substantial hikes in fuel prices (49c/litre increase in petrol and 30c/litre in diesel prices). The ZAR managed to shrug off most of its losses following the sovereign downgrades by S&P and Fitch, closing the month stronger. Publication of the consumer confidence index has been postponed to the month of June.
