SA Foodservices – Fast Food for Thought

We present the case that foodservices companies could show some resilience in a downturn, although consumers may increasingly trade down to takeaways from sit-down restaurants, and argue that growth in the sector will depend on increasing the frequency of eating out by higher LSM customers.
We compiled a database of close to 8 000 food outlets in South Africa and provide detailed analysis on the foodservice categories.
We gained customer insights from our own survey, and note consumer behaviours which could benefit the counters.
