In this note we gain a greater understanding of the challenges faced in the domestic telecoms sector using global trends. We unpack the complexity behind big data customer analytics and we assess the degree to which the operators have been able to diversify into digital services and participate in new opportunities like IoT. We also look at the competitive landscape in SA and evaluate the impact which market consolidation and asymmetrical access to spectrum could have on competition.
